Alagappa University

Alagappa University accredited with ‘A’ Grade by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) is located at Karaikudi in Tamil Nadu .This University has emerged from the galaxy of institutions initially founded by the great philanthropist and educationist Dr. RM. Alagappa Chettiar.
 
Alagappa University was brought into existence by a Special Act of the Government of Tamil Nadu in May 1985 with the objective of fostering research, development and dissemination of knowledge in various branches of learning. Alagappa University is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of India.
 
The University offers education through Regular, Week-end, Distance and Collaborative modes. The Distance Education Directorate offers variety of programmes to the student community spread across the country and in selected foreign countries. Through all modes of education, the University caters to the needs of the student community of around 1,00,000.
 
As a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), as well as the member of the Association of Common Wealth Universities (ACU), it has rewarding relations with other academic institutions, research laboratories and industrial establishments that promise a spectacular feature.
 
The University is having International Collaborations with Universities / Institutions of Higher Learning in countries like China, Malaysia, West Indies, U.S.A. and South Korea. Ex-post facto approval from DEC
 
The Distance Education Council (DEC), New Delhi has accorded ex-post facto approval for 108 programs (order No.F.No.DEC/AU/KKD/TN/4425/2008, dated 24.11.2009) offered through the distance mode of Alagappa University, Karaikudi, with effect from 1995 to the academic year 2007-08.
 
Prior to 1995, the certificates issued by the University stand automatically recognized as they were approved by the relevant authorities of the University as stated by DEC. The approval was given to the University based on the recommendation of the Expert Committee, the Distance Education Council, New Delhi.
 
Recognition from DEC
 
Consequent to the inspection visit made by an Expert Team (Joint Action Committee)comprising of UGC-AICTE-DEC to the Alagappa University, the DEC has accorded recognition to various programs offering through Distance mode (vide F.No.DEC/Recog/2010/2289 dated 04.08.2010. Further, this recognition is valid for a period of three years till 2012-13.
 
About Directorate of Distance Education
 
The Directorate of Distance Education was established in the University in 1992. The Directorate offers Under Graduate and Post Graduate Programmes in the disciplines of Management, Computer Applications, Science, Education and Languages.
 
The Directorate offers various innovative, job-oriented and socially relevant 57 academic programmes in the field of Arts, Science, Information Technology, Education and Management. It has a Study Centre in chennai for providing effective service to the student community.

The Directorate in addition to general MBA, offers more specialised sector-specific management programmes such as MBA (International Business), MBA (Investment Management), MBA (Banking and Finance), MBA (Corporate Secretaryship), MBA (Project Management), MBA (Hospital Management), MBA (Tourism), MBA (Education Management) and MBA (Human Resource Management) and also offers MCA, and PGDCA Programmes, under Semester pattern.
 
The Directorate is planning to adopt the e-technologies in order to modernize the learning process so that the students can have direct access to internet facilities. With the proposed campus wide networking, it would be possible to organize learning with the satellite facilities. This would help the University to update its instructional modes and open new vistas of e-learning for the students.

Bharathiar University

The Bharathiar University was established at Coimbatore by the Government of Tamilnadu in February, 1982 under the provision of the Bharathiar University Act, 1981 (Act 1 of 1982). The Postgraduate Centre of the University of Madras, which was functioning in Coimbatore before 1982 formed the core of the Bharathiar University. In May, 1985 the University received the recognition from University Grants Commission (UGC) New Delhi for the purpose of grants.
 
The University named after the great national poet Subramania Bharathi is enshrined with the motto “Educate to Elevate”. In the University, every effort is harnessed to realize his dream of making educational institutions as temple of learning. It is the aim of the University to participate in the task of inculcating necessary Knowledge, Skills and Creative Attitudes and values among the youth of the country to contribute more effectively towards establishing an equitable social and economic and secular ideal of our nation.
 
The University is situated at the backdrop of Maruthamalai Hills in the Western Ghat range, in a sprawling campus of 1000 acres of land. 15 kms. from the City of Coimbatore. As of now the University has 104 affiliated colleges, 92 Arts and Science Colleges, 2 University Colleges, 12 Management institutions and 1 Air Force Administration College. In addition, there are 25 Research Institutes of the State and Central Governments, which are recognized by this University for research purpose. School of Distance Education (SDE)
 
The School of Distance Education (SDE) of Bharathiar University was established during the academic year 1991-92. The school has limited its operation for the obvious reason of strengthening its base to provide quality education. Having realized the objective, the school has started extending its action by identifying and approving study centres throughout the country to help achieve higher gross enrolment ratio and higher literacy rate.
 
The study materials prepared in the prescribed format of Distance Education Council (DEC) are provided to the students supplemented by compact discs for hassle free use anywhere at any time without the burden of carrying the course materials. University Of Madras


The University was established on 5th September 1857. The University was organised in the model of London University.
Madras University is the mother of almost all the old Universities of southern India. The University imparts both Under Graduate and Post Graduate Education through the Affiliated Institutions which are spread over the districts of Chennai, Thiruvallur and Kancheepuram. Apart from teaching, research activities in Arts, Humanities, Science, Management and Technology are the main portals at the University.
A number of institutions affiliated to Madras University Concentrate in research activities where Ph.D., Programme is available in their respective field of specialisation. The University is also offering teaching and Research programmes in 4 Campuses of Madras University. The 68 University Departments of study and research are spread over in 4 Campuses organised into 18 Schools each of which offer Post Graduate Courses in respective specialisation, part time and full time Ph.D. Programmes, Diploma and Certificate Programmes.
M.C.A. and M.B.A are well designed professional training courses for aspiring graduates in the respective specialisations.
The University has been accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with the five stars rating first, and later with an A Grade rating. The UGC has recognised the University as one of the centres for potential for excellence in the country.

The University has been growing from strength to strength since its inception. Its geographical jurisdiction for academic activity spreads over three Revenue Districts of Tamil Nadu covering about 20 million people. Institute of Distance Education
The Institute of Correspondence Education of the University of Madras now called the Institute of Distance Education was established in the year 1981. Admissions are made throughout the year under Academic year(June to December) and Calendar Year stream(January to May).
The Institute of Distance Education at present offers 105 programs: Under-Graduate 26, Post-Graduate 24,Professional 17,Diploma 25 and certificate 13.
Under various Programmes offered by the IDE about 3.0 lakhs students are on roll.
